With new homes, having installed the timber floor after the plaster, the second last job prior to carpet installation is to sand and polish the floor 3 times in the polish of your choice.

With renovation work, we allow the floor to settle for a minimum of 1 week prior to sanding and polishing.

Southern Timber Floors recommends 3 alternative polishes, each available in different gloss levels. We also stain to your choice of colour.

Some of our finishes include:

  • Polyurethane – 3 Coat System adds significant depth of colour to the appearance of the timber and is available in matt, satin, semi-gloss and full gloss.
  • Alcohol Based – 3 Coat System adds a medium amount of colour to the appearance of the timber and is available in satin, semi-gloss and full gloss.
  • Water Based – 3 Coat System is available with the option of two different primers that can change the overall finished appearance. Our water based Coatings are produced in Germany and come with the latest technology to produce a finish that has a good UV resistance and is available in satin and gloss.

We invite you to come into our showroom to have a look and a chat about how the different polishes can enhance individual timber species, so that you get the look you prefer. We can also offer advise on how to care and maintain your floor.

As a guide, timber floors are generally re sanded and polished every 10 to 12 years in Australia. However, this will greatly depend on how you maintain your floor and on your taste. For instance, some people like a few scratches and marks as they see it as part of the natural aging of their timber floor. Others prefer their floor to look brand new.

We take great pride in ensuring we produce the most beautiful timber floors for your home that will give you many years of enjoyment
